Adams County Fire Rescue Now Carries Life-Saving Blood Products
When seconds count, so does what’s on the ambulance. ACFR is proud to announce our Safety and Medical Officers now carry blood products, bringing hospital level, life-saving care directly to you, wherever you are.
Why Does This Matter?
Severe bleeding from car crashes, falls, workplace injuries, or medical emergencies is a leading cause of preventable death. Research shows that receiving blood products early, before arriving at the hospital, significantly improves survival.
In the past, EMTs and Paramedics could only give IV fluids like saline to patients who were bleeding heavily. EMS evolving research showed those IV fluids could not carry oxygen or help your blood clot the way real blood can. Now, ACFR crews can give you what your body actually needs right at the scene.
What Are Blood Products?
Our Safety and Medical apparatus will carry the product, which is as close to the blood already in your body as it can be. These products are safe, carefully screened, and stored under strict FDA guidelines. They are the same as used in hospitals.
