The Fire Investigations Division is responsible for investigating the origin, cause, and circumstances of any fire, explosion, or other hazardous condition within our fire district. ACFR Fire Investigators also assist neighboring fire departments and law enforcement agencies in their investigations. Our Fire Investigations Division provides expert courtroom testimony as well. ACFR Fire Investigators are certified either through the National Association of Fire Investigators (NAFI), the International Association of Arson Investigators (IAAI), or both. 

Understanding the origin and cause of a fire incident is vital to the safety of the community and fire department personnel. During the course of an investigation, the scene will be examined, photographed, and documented. Evidence may be collected, witnesses and victims interviewed, and potential suspects may be interrogated with assistance from our law enforcement partners. The Fire Investigations Division shares information gathered through the investigation process to strengthen ACFR’s Community Risk Reduction efforts.
