ACFR EMS
Did you know?
Roughly 75% of our calls for service have a medical need. This results in approximately 5,000 transports by ACFR to area hospitals each year. All of our line personnel are medically trained and certified, with approximately 60 EMTs and 40 Paramedics. All of our EMTs are also Intravenous (IV) certified. Paramedics must maintain Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as well as Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS) certifications.
EMT education is 120-150 hours of instruction and usually takes from 6 months to 9 months to complete. Paramedic education is 1200-1800 hours of instruction (in addition to the 120-150 for EMT), and can take up to 2 years to complete.
ACFR provides Advanced Life Support (ALS) Transport with the staffing of 4 Medic Units. Each of these Medic Units is staffed with a minimum of one Paramedic and one EMT. Fire Engines will often be staffed with a Paramedic, and first-line emergency equipment as well.
